GOOD NEWS (for people who like bad news)!!

It is always nice to see our competent newspapers digging up the really relevant and important stories of the world, for instance this recent article by the New York Times: "ADHD drugs linked to higher test scores"

 

Here is an article with a slightly more critical tone "Ritalin: Better living through chemistry?"

"This year some six million children in the U.S.--one in eight-- will take Ritalin. With 5 percent of the world's population, the U.S. consumes 85 percent of this drug. Have we considered the consequences?"

 

Also, a very good new documentary has been brought to my attention recently:

Recent screening of House of Numbers in Boston becomes "Crazy House"

The second screening of House of Numbers featured a panel discussion which was supposed to be

a fair, equally represented panel of people from the film. There seems to be some controversy however.

Dr. Daniel Kuritzkes (second from left), a professor at Harvard Medical School, told the audience at the screening that Leung’s film gave unwarranted credibility to the AIDS denialist movement, and he accused Leung of taking his own comments out of context in the film. Kuritzkes was joined by fellow panelist and Fenway Health President and CEO John Boswell (left), as well as (right to left) Liam Scheff and Christopher Fiala, two audience members who sat at the table uninvited and claimed that they were providing balance to the panel.    (Source:Marilyn Humphries)

Side note on the video:
While Oster doesn't necessarily challenge the official HIV=AIDS dogma, her unbiased perspective of an economist allows her to be less favorable to blindly accepting the figures and statistics on prevalence and demographics.

The section on "hunt for good data" in her talk is of interest. Overall her general thesis is not one that will bring an end to AIDS. However, this video is of interest simply to elucidate on the serious inconsistencies in HIV=AIDS theory.

Ivan Illich Archive in Other Stuff

Illich was a man who refused to accept the failure of the status quo throughout his life. His writings were social commentaries and criticisms on the failures of modern institutions.

Illich made people look very differently at the educational system, the medical system and even the modern transportation systems. He argued that these institutions, among others, were living hypocrisies. The supposed achievements and accomplishments of these institutions were nothing more than dressed up fables.

What George Carlin recognized about the use of euphemisms and what scholars like John Anthony West refer to as the "church of progress," Illich was fully aware of decades before.

The version of his book Medical Nemesis which is available on this site is not a 1976 edition, but a version from 1995 with a very interesting preface in which he examines the meaning and message in his book almost 20 years after the initial publication.

Truly a treasure and wealth of information.

The Minneapolis radio station KTLK responded with an apology and a pledge to air HIV/AIDS public service announcements to "better inform their listeners and employees."
